Most of them did not go to prom alone.<\/p>\n<p>These facts, somehow, still did not stop Jon Savitt (Funny or Die, College Humor, Washington Post) from chasing his dreams. Blending authentic stories, sharp punchlines, and compelling visuals, \u201cKing of the Court\u201d is the untold underdog tale of one of the greatest athletes to ever live. Sure, \u201cathlete\u201d may be subjective. So grab your foam finger and get ready to laugh, cry, and cheer. Because dreams have no shot clock.<\/p>\n<p>Ready for your new favorite underdog story? Meet comedian and writer, Jon Savitt. He\u2019s been featured in places like Funny or Die, Washington Post, TIME, College Humor, and more. He\u2019s performed around the country and has written for shows, podcasts, politicians, you name it. But making people laugh wasn\u2019t always what he wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up in Minneapolis as a Timberwolves-obsessed basketball fan during the KG era, Savitt \u2014 like many kids \u2014 had dreams of playing professional ball. Spoiler alert: things didn\u2019t exactly work out as planned.<\/p>\n<h2>Lucky for us, he wrote an NBA comedy show about his journey instead.<\/h2>\n<p>The hour-long, one-person show is called \u201cKing of the Court\u201d, and it packs an equal amount of laughs, basketball references, and authentic photos and videos from Savitt\u2019s childhood.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-21286 aligncenter lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i80sportsblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Jon-Savitt-King-of-the-Court-Show-Poster-min.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"643\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-21286 aligncenter lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/i80sportsblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Jon-Savitt-King-of-the-Court-Show-Poster-min.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"643\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really just wanted to make something lighthearted and fun,\u201d Savitt says. \u201cIt\u2019s meant to be a bit dramatic and goofy. But at its core, it&#8217;s really a show about navigating our dreams as we grow older and giving ourselves the space and permission to pivot and adapt as we see fit. I think we so often build our identities around our work or our goals \u2014 sometimes stuff we can\u2019t even control \u2014 and so this addresses how we think about ambition and dreams and \u2018failure\u2019, and how we decide what is worth pursuing and more importantly why. But in a funny way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; What was your career-high <\/strong>points scored in a game?<\/p>\n<p>14. I remember one of our star players got injured so I had to play additional minutes. Felt like a hero.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8211; Where is your 8th grade state basketball champion medal right now?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s currently in a box in my parent&#8217;s basement. It served a purpose and I&#8217;m proud of it, but in the back of my head I&#8217;m still focused on that NBA finals trophy. They did however want to throw it out at one point and I said no.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; What is your <\/strong>personal basketball career highlight?<\/p>\n<p>In elementary school I made a 3-point shot in front of the school at an assembly. All downhill from there.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8211; How many chicks did you bang solely based on your athletic prowess?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Definitely zero<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8211; What was your go-to offensive move?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I really tried to get to the free-throw line as much as possible. Like the Jewish James Harden.
